Leave Liverpool Tidy

What is Leave Liverpool Tidy?

• A Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Project
• Limit the amount of reusable materials going to landfill
• Funded initially by Liverpool City Council
• Partnership between LGoS, LSU and LCC
• Visit our website for full details - http://liverpooltidy.blogspot.co.uk/

What’s the problem?

• During the summer months when students move out of their accommodation, vast quantities or items are left out on the streets as rubbish, creating much anger and high waste levels within local communities.
• This anger is directed at the students who are seen as the main producer of this mess. Therefore during this time there are poor student and non-student community relationships.
• The items left on the streets are sent to landfill, at the expense of the council, when in reality large amounts of these items are reusable and should be recycled.

Project Objectives

• Collecting reusable items and holding a series of free shops and community free shops where people can collect items they need for free, thereby diverting items from landfill and creating a more sustainable community.
• Donating items to local hostels, shelters and refuges where donations will be gratefully received. Thus showing a positive image of students taking responsibility within their communities, whilst diverting items from landfill and supporting local groups.
• Proving volunteering opportunities for both student and non-student community members to facilitate their interaction and cohesion, promoting a positive image of students in the community.
