NUS

The NUS (National Union of Students) is a voluntary membership organisation which aims to make a real difference to the lives of students and its member students' unions. LSU chooses to affiliate with the NUS and as such we thought it would be good to explain what the NUS actually does and why it is important to our members.

The NUS represents the voice of nearly 7 million students this strength means that NUS can speak to the government, national media and other organisations with credibility to effect positive change for students nationally. The NUS was mentioned more than 100 times in parliament this year, with an aim to promoting the needs and collective ideals of students across the UK. The organisation has had a number of victories for students; they were the leading voice which won exemption from council tax for students in addition to the introduction of the tenancy deposit scheme which has resulted in over £52 million being returned to students that would otherwise have been kept by unscrupulous landlords.

As the largest student organisation in Europe the NUS unites students union up and down the UK to improve the lives of students ensuring your voice is heard to the world.

As LSU is an NUS member all our members are also entitled to purchase the NUS Extra card offering exclusive student discounts which costs £10 for one year.
