Mature Students at LJMU

Being a part of a community

Whatever your age making the decison to come to university is a huge one - but you are not alone. LJMU has around 24,000 students of which around 40% of undergraduates are classed as mature (aged 21 or over at the start of their course) and 70% of postgraduates are classed as mature (aged 25 or over at the start of their course). There is therefore a large mature student population at the university.

Recognising differences

Liverpool Students' Union (LSU) recognises that as a group the mature student community is likely to have different needs to those students just leaving school or college such as work commitments, childcare responsibilities, different life experiences and priorties whilst studying. It is also recognised that this group is also made up of individuals each which a unique background and one size doesn't fit all. With the age range of mature students at LJMU from 21 to 80 the challenge for LSU is to be relevant and engaging to all.

Support, guidance and opportunities

Whatever your background, age or course LSU has made a commitment to represent the interests of mature students at LJMU and provide as many opportunites as possible to enhance your student experience, from running mature student focus groups, coordinating family friendly trips and launching a mature students network.

Your ideas, opinions and suggestions welcomed

LSU would really like to hear your thoughts on what we offer and ideas for how we could better represent and support the interests of mature students at LJMU. Please feel free to email ideas to studentsunion@ljmu.ac.uk or contact one of the elected officer team
