Tanzania Book Project

Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world. This has a massive impact on education and the educational resources Tanzanian students receive.

We need YOU to help us change this and help these students receive the education we so often take for granted.

From secondary school age, Tanzanian students are taught in English, they are also taught our old O - and A - level syllabuses. There is a huge surplus of textbooks in English schools. They sit in store cupboards in secondary schools gathering dust and getting in the way until they are eventually discarded. We can put these resources back into use in to the immeasurable benefit of the Tanzanian students.

There are many ways of getting involved in this project. We are having fundraising events throughout the year; these can be anything from nights in the union to a skydive. They are a chance to be sociable so if you have any ideas, we need your help!!

We will be working in schools, volunteers will go into local schools to run workshops and raise awareness of this project and other global issues with pupils. We need people with an interest in the media to take part in newspaper and radio campaigns to raise the profile of the project both within the university and the city of Liverpool . Finally, we also need volunteers to help us to sort and pack the books ready to send them off to .

Ultimately we will be sending several students who have volunteered throughout the year out to to meet the books when they arrive and help distribute them. As well as meeting the children you have worked hard to help while distributing the books there will also be a chance to spend some time at your leisure in this amazing country! That might be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, going on Safari, visiting Zanzibar or whatever floats your boat!
