Everyone interested in climbing is welcome, regardless of experience.
If you've never climbed before and want to give it a go, you can contact us before hand at ljmu.climbing@googlemail.com or you can just turn up.
Likewise if your a seasoned climber and want to meet other climbers then your just as welcome.
You can join us during any part of the academic year. You don't have to join us at the start in September, although this is when we have the largest increase in new climbers.
There currently is a membership fee of £20 per year. This is required on joining the club. However we are happy for people to come for a couple of weeks and give climbing a try before they decide if they want to join the club.
Benefits include; insurance, the chance to join us on outdoor excursions, access to club equipment, access to experienced climbers for advice and guidance, option to become part of the Climbing Committee, discount off some indoor wall admission fees and BMC membership.
If you've never climbed before, we suggest you join us on a Tuesday and wear comfortable old clothing that doesn't restrict movement. Trainers are acceptable footwear, but we would recommend hiring of some rock shoes when you try climbing as they make a huge difference. Other optional equipment can be hired, such as a harness and belay device for roped climbing and climbing chalk to keep your hands dry when they get sweaty!
The club is friendly and welcoming to all, we are a fairly laid back group. The primary focus of the club is just enjoyment and fun, but not at the expense of safety.
Climbing is a great, enjoyable way to keep fit, it has a completely unique and unrivalled combination of technical skill, strength and mental control.
If you have a busy life and can't always make every week, don't worry. We don't require any level of attendance to join us indoors, you can simply come when you have the time spare and want to. Some people come every week, others come as and when they want. Its up to you, after all its your spare time, do with it what you want.
The club also is currently in the process of organising trips outdoors, however we cannot give a definitive time scale on this.
If you have any worries or concerns please feel free to contact us and/or tell us when you arrive.
The BMC statement states:
"The BMC recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions."
