Elections 2008- Frequently Asked Questions

I don’t know how to vote.. it will take ages wont it?
Actually voting in your SU elections only takes a few moments of your time. All you need is your LJMU card and you will be issued with your ballot papers - once you have these fill in the boxes with your preferences 1, 2, 3 etc.. submit it in the secure ballot box - and your done!

I can’t vote - I don’t understand this 1 in my box business?!
- The voting system is actually quite simple. You put number 1 in the box of your first choice, number 2 in your second etc... Its important to fill in your choices as for example if there is a tie situation - If Jon had 500 1st choice votes and Sally had 500 1st choice votes we would see who had the most 2nd choice votes, Jon 154 2nd choice, Sally 237 2nd choice votes - Sally would win!

I'm a third year student.. why should I vote?
- As a third year student you are still eligible to vote in SU Elections. This is your opportunity to leave a positive legacy to LSU. You have the experience and seen it all during the time and your vote will be well informed!

I don’t know where and when to vote?
- Where-ever you are based there will be a polling station near to you! Check out the website for details nearer to the time!

I don’t know who to vote for - it’s just too confusing!
- If you are unsure of who to vote for it’s quite easy to make your choice. Candidates will have manifesto's which will have their election promises. You can also attend ‘Candidates Question Time’ and hear what they have to say and ask questions. Normally candidates are located near polling stations during voting - this is another opportunity for you to ask questions and allow them to convince you to vote for them!

Why should I go to Candidates Question Time?
- Candidates Question Time can be great fun, especially the more people that attend. Candidates come together and give a speech about why you should vote and you have the chance to ask them some questions. It can be a really fun experience as candidates are usually dressed in their campaign colours and can have chants and slogans! Well worth the watch!
