Sabbatical and Part-Time Executive Elections 2008

What does a Sabbatical position involve?

Sabbatical officer positions are year-long, full-time, paid roles. Students can take up the position at the end of their studies, or take time out during their course. There are four sabbatical positions;

  • President & Communications
  • Vice President Activities & Participation
  • Vice President Education & Democracy
  • Vice President Welfare & Equal Opportunities

As Trustees Sabbatical officers are responsible for overseeing and directing the work of the Students’ Union, ensuring that the organisation runs effectively. Sabbaticals also represent the student body in LJMU, the local area and nationally including sitting on Committees at the very highest level of LJMU.

Each role also has its own particular responsibilities such as developing the Course Representative system.

What does a Part-time Executive position involve?
Part-time Executive members are voluntary positions which students carry out along with their studies. They work closely with the sabbaticals running campaigns and representing the views of students. There are nine positions available;

  • Campaigns Officer
  • City Campus Officer
  • Disabled Rights Officer
  • General Executive Officer
  • I M Marsh Campus Officer
  • LGB Rights Officer
  • Mature Students Officer
  • Race Equality Officer
  • Women’s Officer

What support do officers get?
  • LSU employs permanent staff to support the work of elected officers, helping them turn election pledges into reality.
  • As part of NUS, LSU’s elected officers have access to high-quality training specifically designed to equip you with the skills you need to be effective in the role.
  • LSU also has links with other Unions and other student officers so there is always somewhere to go for fresh ideas.
